Every year at the Objects of Art Santa Fe Show, I devote a booth wall on a major aisle to a collection of objects with a unifying theme. The stunning orange and gray quilt offered here was the inspiration of this years theme: Objects of Art: 13 Shades of Gray.
Originally, the quilt caught my eye because of the unexpected pairing of orange and gray; the intricacy of the pattern — a “Pickle Dish” variation; and the excellence of the workmanship and condition. Machine and hand pieced and entirely hand quilted (eight to nine stitches to the inch), the lightweight quilt is made with no batting. It’s backed by a soft shade of orange cotton and measures 69” X 86”.
Special note: This has been a difficult quilt to photograph because of the colors, so I’m using photos with three different cameras with flash and natural light. In some instances, the shades of orange and gray are softer than they appear.
